As part of the 10:23 Campaign, skeptics in several cities will be taking part in a homeopathic "overdose" in order to make the general public more aware of what homeopathy really is and to encourage Boots to drop these products.
Although homeopathic products can be written off as a harmless placebo, many skeptics feel that their widespread use shouldn't be ignored since it's part of a trend away from science and towards superstition and irrationality. What's more, it's frightening to think that many parents are experimenting with these products on their children rather than getting them proper medical attention.
This event is not a protest in the traditional sense: there will be no marching or handing out of leaflets. At about 10:15 we'll get together on the High Street in Birmingham City Centre, phial of pillules at the ready (this should be a Boots 30c "remedy" - they come in little blue tubes) and at 10:23 we'll start swallowing the lot. We have some special t-shirts which you can buy, wear and take away as a souvenir.
We'll film and photograph the event and post everything on YouTube and Flickr; we're also expecting the local media to be present. It should be fun, so, if you haven't done so already, RSVP at the Facebook page or contact the group using the "Contact us" link on the left.
